Cha-Kema, known as Kema to her friends, grew up in Baltimore. She is a proud mother to a loving squad of 5 children ages 19, 18, 17, 6, and 4. Kema is a woman fueled by God’s love, joy, and resilience. She embraces life as an adventurous journey and has grasped the fine art of laughing at herself. She enjoys learning, living out loud, uplifting others, and let’s not forget, loving all over that fantastic crew of hers.

As a newly single mother, Kema enjoys the experience of spending time volunteering with her children at church and bonding in those moments. These opportunities teach them the importance of giving back, as it creates meaningful life memories. She also serves on her church outreach ministry, support community projects such as “The Charm School Project for Girls” and shares her story of triumph to empower others over multiple platforms.

Kema graduated from John Hopkins University with a Bachelor’s in IT concentrated in Digital Forensics. She continued to her masters at National Defense University in Cyber Strategic Leadership. Her career path landed her in the role of Mission Support Deputy Director at the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center where she worked for over 11 years just before she stepped into her new role as a Senior Program Analysis at Booz Allen Hamilton.

Through one of life’s interruptions, she experienced depression and isolation from a heart-breaking event. It was her connection to community that she gained the determination to fight through disappointment to become the best version of herself. Kema is pursuing the Miss Maryland America title to bring awareness to the importance of community connection and service that foster emotional healing to overcome depression and loneliness. Through her platform, Kema is actively involved with Cityfam, a nonprofit that guides people toward a more fulfilling life by facilitating service and social events that are intended to support the community and strengthen healthy relationships.
