Description

My name is Stepheny Atencio, I am the daughter of Steve and Brenda Atencio. I am the proud mother to my two beautiful and cherished daughters, Karsynn and Adelynn, who inspire me every single day. I am from Northwestern New Mexico, where I was born and raised.
For the past 19 years, I have had the privilege of serving as a school counselor, walking alongside students during some of the most important and challenging moments of their lives. I currently serve at Navajo Preparatory School, an International Baccalaureate World School and college preparatory school for the Navajo Nation, where I am honored to support and uplift our next generation.
My first love was dance. For 32 years, I studied and taught dance, including nine years as a studio owner. Through movement, I discovered not only expression, but healing—a path that led me to combine my mental health background and become EMDR-trained and a certified yoga instructor. I believe deeply in the connection between the mind and body, and the power it holds to help us heal, grow, and thrive.
My platform, Bridging Hope, is rooted in expanding mental health access and suicide prevention in Native and rural communities. I am passionate about raising awareness, reducing stigma, and advocating for resources that are culturally respectful and accessible. Through education, community partnerships, and empowerment, my mission is to ensure that no one feels alone—and that hope is always within reach.
Above all, my life is grounded in faith. I strive to serve the Lord in all that I do, using the gifts He has placed within me to bring light, healing, and purpose to others.
On this journey to become your Miss New Mexico for America Strong, I stand with a heart of gratitude, a spirit of service, and a vision of hope—ready to uplift every voice, honor every story, and remind every community that they are seen, they are valued, and they are never alone.
